The Background
Red Mesa Outpost is an emerging luxury adventure resort located just outside Bryce Canyon, Utah. The founders came to me with a fun idea: to build a basecamp for exploration, reconnection, and outdoor joy, where guests could unplug from the noise and re-engage with nature, family, and themselves — all in the striking beauty of the Utah desert.
As a startup seeking capital and development partnerships, Red Mesa needed more than a logo — it needed a full visual foundation that could communicate both the rugged spirit of the land and the refined comfort of the experience they aim to provide. For this case study we will focus on the logo creation as Red Mesa Outpost is still in development.
The Challenge
The brand identity needed to balance seemingly contrasting qualities:

Rustic and refined
Deeply local yet aspirational and scalable
It also had to resonate with multiple audiences: investors, early partners, and future guests, each needing to see the vision brought to life with credibility and clarity.

I designed a hand-drawn logo that fuses natural textures with a clean structure — evoking:
The flowing lines of red rock mesas
The organic beauty of the high desert
A sense of place through the state of Utah shape

Primary & secondary logo variations for diverse applications
Custom desert-inspired color palette, built around the reds, sand tones, and dusky blues of Utah’s canyons and skies
Typography selections that balance approachability and sophistication
Guidelines for spacing, scale, and application across web, print, and merchandise
A clear brand tone and positioning summary to help unify future messaging and marketing efforts
