The Background
NYU Wagner, one of the nation’s premier public service graduate schools, needed design and communications support that could operate seamlessly within the bureaucratic complexities of a major university while still delivering engaging, mission-driven creative work. As an in-house designer, I was tasked with aligning and uplifting communications across multiple internal initiatives — all while staying within NYU’s established brand parameters.
The Challenge
Designing within a large academic institution presents unique creative constraints. I had to:
Work through multi-departmental feedback and approval loops
Balance institutional consistency with fresh and distinct visual storytelling
Serve a wide range of stakeholders, from academic departments to public campaigns
Manage and evolve web, social, print, and ad channels cohesively
Craft engaging communications that speak to students, faculty, policymakers, and the public
Key Projects & Contributions
NYC 2025 Initiative
I designed the logo and brand identity for NYC 2025, a nonpartisan initiative convening experts to discuss post-COVID equity, governance, and infrastructure in New York City. The brand needed to reflect urgency, neutrality, and civic trust — while also being bold enough to stand out in policy media.
NYU Wagner Labor Initiative
For this program focused on elevating government’s role in advancing workers’ rights, I created a logo and visual system rooted in solidarity, clarity, and public service. I also developed collateral to support event programming, academic releases, and policy advocacy.
Institutional Reports & Print/Digital Design
I designed a range of industry and academic reports, helping translate complex research into visually compelling, readable formats. This included infographics, layout systems, and branding for white papers, policy memos, and data briefs.
Web Design & Management
I managed daily website updates, developed landing pages, improved user navigation, and ensured visual consistency across all digital properties. My work directly supported outreach campaigns, event signups, and program growth.
Social Media Strategy & Content
In collaboration with the communications director, I planned, created, and scheduled all social media content. Through an improved strategy, custom graphics, and elevated storytelling, I significantly increased both engagement and follower growth.
Custom Illustration & Media Editing
I also brought projects to life with hand-drawn maps, visual explainers, custom signage, flyers, and campaign graphics. I edited video and audio content, helping amplify NYU Wagner’s stories through multimedia channels.
Designing Within Boundaries
Working within NYU’s brand standards challenged me to get creative with limited design mobility — a valuable skill in institutional and governmental design work. I learned how to make a big impact with small shifts: typography, hierarchy, iconography, and storytelling became my tools of distinction.
